The interview bias in this case is seen as not enjoying interacting with people you don’t like, resulting in you not putting in as much effort. Statements like, “They’re just not my cup of tea,” or “I’m not a fan of their vibe” or even “I don’t like them.” These are all considered interview bias and can hamper hiring truly good talent in place of hiring someone who you “like” more.
Tardy goes on to challenge the statement “I don’t like them” and suggests we change one word to flip the script. “I don’t understand them.” This dives more into the core of your experience of interacting with them interpersonally and helps to bridge the gap of identifying great talent for the job.
