Mee Derby was founded as Robin Mee and Company on December 15, 1988 and incorporated as Mee Derby and Company, Inc. on October 1, 1990. Robin Mee is Founder, President, and Managing Executive Recruiter.

Mee Derby is one of a handful of companies in the United States that staffs the staffing industry nationwide. According to the 2003 Staffing Industry Supplier Directory, Mee Derby is one of the oldest and largest "Recruiters for the Staffing Industry" with seven employees between the Maryland corporate headquarters and two regional offices.

Much has been written about the explosive growth of the staffing industry. According to Baird, a Northwestern Mutual Company that analyzes the staffing industry, "We estimate that the Staffing Industry grew at 12% annually over the last cycle (1992-2003), more than twice the rate of the overall economy, and will grow 8% annually over the next cycle."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that temporary staffing will be the seventh fastest growing employment category in the U.S. in 1995-2005, increasing at a rate five times that of the general labor force. Baird projects that professional staffing will grow at 10% annually over the next cycle.

Mee Derby's annual growth rate based on gross sales exceeded 25% per year during the 1990s. The "Place & Search" segment of the staffing industry (a segment in which Mee Derby performs) is projected to grow 12.7% in 2003, according to Staffing Industry Analysts. Mee Derby continues to grow at twice the industry rate.

In late 1998 Mee Derby began a HR division - Mee Derby Works - to provide contract services to non-staffing companies in the Mid-Atlantic. This division is the result of increased demand for information technology (IT) recruiters and Mee Derby's reputation for placing hard to find IT recruiters in staffing environments.
